Ashton Court Estate

This magnificent estate just across the Clifton Suspension Bridge offers trees and woodland, parks of deer, breathtaking views over the city of Bristol - and of course a multitude of festivals.
There are activities to suite all tastes, ranging from pitch-and-put golf to mountain bike trails or just a casual saunter in the fresh air and there's even a mansion house, home to the cafe and visitors centre  Originally designed by Humphry Repton, who also created Blaise Castle Estate, Ashton Court boasts 850 acres of woods and grasslands, home to a host of  wildlife and have a diverse collection of habitats.

Red deer and fallow deer can be seen and have been a fixture since 1392.

There is a range of different woodlands and keep a look out for the Doomsday Oak, which is just one of the many ancient oak trees.

The Rownham Plantation is particularly worth a visit in spring when there is usually a spectacular carpet of bluebells.

Within the estate there are 10 different woodland areas with their own distinctive collection of fauna and flora.

For those who don't want to walk far, the Summerhouse Plantation is close to the mansion and is full of interesting plants and archaeology.
