Gwen describes her work as abstract in genre. She has been influenced by different elements from various artists and styles, such as the American Abstract artists, the colour of Bonard, and Hockney's use paint in his early work.

Gwen's colourful abstract paintings speak of her life and body. Gwen says her work relates to 'my position as a woman, my relationship to my family as well as my position to the world around me'.  The marks and forms on the canvas relate directly to Gwen's size. Gwen sees her work not only as paintings but as stories, although she does not use symbolism or narrative in her work, she uses colour, texture and form as her vocabulary.

Her paintings exude energy and life, balancing areas of paint applicated in a calculated manner to those created spontaneously and sometimes incorporating accidentals. The element of freedom in which each piece is born adds to the dynamism and sense of movement within the canvases.

Gwen has exhibited her work in various shows in London and aboard. She has had solo shows at Wycliffe College (2005) Falsterbo Konsthall in Sweeden (2002), The Wall Place Gallery in North Wales (1999), The Gallery of Modern Art, London (1998), Martha Stevens Gallery Suffolk (1995), Pike Gallery London (1994), Peterborough Art Centre and The Minories in Colchester (1989) as well as numerous group shows internationally. Gwen has also exhibited twice at the Royal Academy Summer Show and twice been selected for the Stowells Trophy at the Royal Academy.
