Shakespeare's Globe
Experience true Elizabethan theatre the way Shakespeare intended at the perfectly reconstructed Globe theatre on London's Bankside.
The Globe was an open air playhouse orignally designed in 1599. It was often known as 'the Wooden O' or as Shakespeare would have known it 'The Cock Pit'. It is a circular theatre based on the Roman Amphitheatres, which stacked galleries on top of another. The audience in the galleries would be sheltered, as would the actors, whilst the 'groundlings' were left uncovered.
Today, Shakespeare's Globe offers an exhibtion and theatre tour throughout the year and a full calendar of events ranging from traditional theatre productions to one off comedy events.
